چکیده

Friction is a classical field that goes back to Leonardo da Vinci, Guilliame Amonton, and Charles Augustin de Coulomb. Amonton found that friction force is proportional to normal load, but surprisingly is independent of the area of the apparent contact surface. This observation is known as the Amonton’s paradox. The apparent contact surface is the geometric object surface projected to the contact surface. The true contact surface is the effective surface in contact between the object and the surface. The apparent contact surface is often much larger than the effective contact surface.

Development of a New Dynamic Friction Model for Analytical Modeling of Elliptical Vibration Assisted Turning Process

A new dynamic friction model for modeling of elliptical vibration assisted turning (EVAT) was developed in this research. The periodic change of the friction force direction is known to be one of the most important causes of this phenomenon. In modeling of machining processes (including the EVAT process), static Coulomb friction model was employed by most of the researchers. Because of the peri...

A Frictionless Bristle-Based Friction Model That Exhibits Hysteresis and Stick-Slip Behavior

We investigate the origins of stick-slip friction by developing an asperitybased friction model based on the frictionless and lossless contact between a body and a row of rigid, rotating bristles attached to the ground by torsional springs and dashpots. This model exhibits hysteresis and quasi-stick-slip friction. The hysteretic energy-dissipation mechanism is the sudden release of the compress...

Compensation of Friction in Robotic Arms and Slide Tables

The paper presents experimental results of friction parameter identification for two different systems: rotational arms of a direct-drive spherical manipulator and linear slide tables. Parameters of the static part of the LuGre friction model are estimated. Several experiments are reported in which selected friction compensation methods are employed for tracking at low velocities. Two compensat...

Transition from Uniform Motion to Stick-Slip in the Rice-Ruina Model of One and Two Blocks

We analyze the Rice-Ruina state and rate dependent friction model. The system consists of one or two blocks driven by springs with constant velocity on a dry, rough surface. Our discussion is limited to the creep-like motion, when the driving velocity is small. Two regimes of motion are observed: stick-slip and steady sliding. The stability of the steady sliding depends on the model parameters....
